Partners in Alternative Training (PALTRA) is a ‘capacity building partner’ supporting civil society, non-government and government organizations ranging from national to grass roots level in Sri Lanka. Since 1998, PALTRA has been enabling organizations to meet the challenges of social, economic and political realities through training and skills development, systems development, action research and studies. We at PALTRA are alternative in our approaches and specialized in interactive, participatory methodologies and provide high quality and innovative services in all 3 languages viz. Sinhala, Tamil and English. The continuous search for new knowledge, commitment to change and improvement in training techniques have been the strengths and the hallmark of PALTRA. Our work is premised on a simple philosophy: Improvement of service delivery can only happen when organizations embrace change and explore new ways of doing things.

How do you Benefit from Capacity Building

Capacity building encourages local people to take action on local issues themselves by preventing a dependency relationship on outsiders.
Capacity building fosters a sense of self-reliance and empowerment so that community partners gain greater control over their own sustainable future development.
Capacity building efforts are sensitive to the particularities of local culture and context, and, as a result, often lead to more feasible and appropriate community solutions than approaches that lack a capacity building focus.
Capacity building approaches to community work acknowledge that growth, learning, and change occur reciprocally; that is, both you and your community partner are expected to be different at the end of your collaborative community work. Ideally, your community partner will be more effective and successful in addressing community issues, and you will learn about working with community partners more effectively and respectfully..
